Employment bulletin: Decrease in unemployed jobseekers in June

A total of 254,200 unemployed jobseekers were registered at the Employment and Economic Development Offices at the end of June. This was 18,600 fewer than a year earlier. The unemployment rate was 6.2 %.

The number of unemployed jobseekers increased by 27,600 from May, which is typical for the summer period. Young graduates entry the labour market from various education institutions and certain fixed-term employment contracts end for the summer months.

The number of long-term unemployed — that is those who had been unemployed without interruption for at least a year — amounted to 63,800, down 13,300 on the previous year. Unemployed jobseekers under 25 years of age numbered 35,200, representing a decrease of 2,900 from June last year.

The number of unfilled vacancies at Employment and Economic Development Offices in June amounted to 110,000, which was 7,200 more than a year ago.

The employment rate was 75.7 %, which was 0.2 percentage points higher than in June the year before.
