According to the Employment Service Statistics of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, at the end of May the number of unemployed jobseekers registered at Employment and Economic Development Offices totalled 302,200, up 33,200 on the previous year. Compared with April, the number of unemployed jobseekers decreased by 5,100.

In May, 21,400 of the unemployed jobseekers were individually laid-off, which is 4,300 less than in April. Since May a year ago, the number of individual lay-offs has increased by 5,700. Furthermore, jobseekers on a reduced working week numbered 7,800, representing an increase of 4,300 from the year before.

The number of new vacancies reported to Employment and Economic Development Offices during May totalled 36,400, or 5,500 less than May in the previous year. 

At the end of May, unemployed jobseekers under 25 years of age numbered 37,800, representing an increase by 4,900 from May a year ago and an increase by 100 since April. Unemployed jobseekers under 20- years of age numbered 7,100. For those over 50, this figure was 113,800, up 10,900 on the year before. Among those over 55, the number of unemployed was 80,100, representing an increase of 6,800 on the year before.

At the end of May, the number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than a year amounted to 87,200, up 17,100 on the previous year. Of those, persons unemployed without interruption for more than two years numbered 38,200, up 6,700 on the previous year.

The number of foreign citizens among unemployed jobseekers totalled 28,900, up 4,000 from May a year ago.

Of these foreign unemployed jobseekers, EU/EEA citizens accounted for 8,200 at the end of May, up 1,900 from the year before.

At the end of May, labour market training was attended by 27,400 students, up 800 on the previous year. During May, 3,900 new students began labour market training, representing an increase of 600 on the year before. In addition, 2,000 persons participated in other training services at the end of May, up 800 on the previous year.
