According to the Employment Service Statistics of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, at the end of August 2014 the number of unemployed jobseekers registered at Employment and Economic Development Offices totalled 319,400, up 29,200 on the previous year.
The number of new vacancies reported to Employment and Economic Development Offices during August totalled 36,200, or 300 more than August in the previous year. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies at Employment and Economic Development Offices amounted to 61,500 in August, which is 1,600 more than a year ago.
Of unemployed jobseekers, 176,700 (55 %) were men and 142,700 (45 %) women. Compared with August a year ago, unemployment among men increased by 16,200 (10 %) and among women by 13,000 (10 %).
At the end of August, unemployed jobseekers under 25 years of age numbered 43,800, representing an increase by 4,600 from August a year ago. For those over 50, this figure was 116,900, up 10,000 on the year before.
At the end of August, the number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than a year amounted to 91,900, up 15,900 on the previous year.
The number of foreign citizens among unemployed jobseekers totalled 31,500, up 3,800 from August a year ago. Of these foreign unemployed jobseekers, EU/EEA citizens accounted for 8,700 at the end of August, up 1,800 from the year before.
